The standard way is a truncated sawtooth wave, and yes, that requires a
scope. But a good first test is the 'Absolute Polarity Blind Listening
Test' (http://www.audiocheck.net/blindtests_abspolarity.php). If you
don't hear the difference, it doesn't matter :)
