So far I haven't even once mentioned the Transporter in this thread, but ookay. There are other DACs available that measure better, but I'd say that it's good enough for human listeners. Especially when compared to the nonlinearities introduced by the speakers and the listening room. They are several orders of magnitude apart. Several. I bought the Transporter over the internet immediately after it first came out. There was no way of hearing or even seeing it in beforehand. I had never heard of Slimserver, but it seemed very versatile. The hardware with all the connections also seemed very versatile. The large display was just what I wanted. And finally, the measurements were good enough to make it a safe purchase. The Duet was never in question, as I lusted for the Transporter's display and hardware versatility. The Touch wasn't available at that time, but if it had been I just might have bought that instead. I consider this purchase one of my best ever. LMS (Slimserver) turned out to be very powerful, top class. I can even use it for DRC, which I do. The display is fabulous. I use or have used all of the connections except the RS232. If I went shopping today I could have the same performance for half the price. And the display is not as important nowadays with all the apps, but I still prefer using it because it's always where it's supposed to be and it never has to be charged. I use my Booms for all casual background listening, I have one in every room. But if I would start all over again, I would buy active speakers with DSP and digital in. And keep using DRC.
