I would bet they spent a lot more developing the front-end than the OS.. it's probably also full of massive security holes (telnetd running, rlogin enabled, unpatched phpmyadmin running on default port, etc). In other words all the things all IoT vendors always get wrong because they don't understand the free software they are basing their reputation on.
