Agree, that is excessive for an LMS box. Given that many people are running it quite happily on a R Pi B+, or indeed on a SBT, I think both our builds are over engineered. I qualify my own build by stating it's also a file server, email, web server, doing software encryption of all that traffic. So it's not quite so over engineered in that sense.
