--- "Debian live" tries to do something like that, with /cow being a tmpfs and /filesystem.squashfs a mounted loop squashfs. mount -t aufs -o noatime,noxino,dirs=/cow=rw:/filesystem.squashfs=rr aufs /root Is this a known issue?
