Who's dangerous??
The only thing about the new system I am not keen about is the loss of area
frequencies.
The "appropriate frequency" is open to interoperation, and I guess having
grown up in the
old school, I would like to be able to talk to the guy I have just spotted
in conflict
with me, so we are both reading from the same song sheet. This will reduce
my work load,
and let me get on with flying my aircraft, instead of second guessing his
intentions.

Sadly, you are spot on. More accurately, you would have been if you had
said "... concern from a small but noisy minority of power pilots". Most
power pilots welcome these changes because they keep responsibility where it
belongs, in the cockpit.
