Dear all,

(I have read a few messages on the web archive and now replying to this single
topic only as I think it is real important; sorry not to be able to read
everything at the moment)

I would like to make clear if it isn't already clear by now that the avalon
community has not ousted Mr Donald, nor have the collective avalon committers,
nor the Avalon PMC, nor the ASF board.

The ASF board has suspended Mr Donald's committer and voting privileges (not for
avalon, but for all of apache's projects, which includes avalon), and the
reasons behind this suspension remain private unless Mr Donald chooses to make
them public. The ASF board's unfortunate decision on this matter was not based
on a proposal regarding this matter by the avalon community, nor by the
collective avalon committers, nor by the Avalon PMC. This decision was not
solely based on events in the avalon community.

I hope, and I think everyone shares my feelings, that whatever the reasons are
for suspending Mr Donald as a committer are taken away as soon as possible so
his suspension as a committer can be lifted. Not knowing the reasons behind his
suspension, I will not voice comments on the suspension itself. I would
encourage all others to do the same as I think that is the most respectful of Mr
Donald.

On a personal note, I have always tremendously enjoyed working with Peter, and
greatly value his input and contributions to avalon and other projects. He has
taken upon him the informal role of acting as my mentor within the apache
community, and has taught me a tremendous deal about open source, the apache
community, software development, and life in general. I am very grateful for
this. I really hope that Peter will stay part of the avalon community.

best regards,

Leo Simons
