building your own physic system should definitely increase the performances

but i assure you, it IS possible to create a racing game using a 3D
engine AND a full fledged physics system (and even something more than
those two) ... even in the pre-molehill era ;)

of course the performances weren't so great and the minimum
requirements quite high ... but anyway 15/20 fps for a 3d game back in
2009 wasn't so bad :D
