Hello,

This month I have received new tidbits of information about the MOURA family
my (now) husband is descended from. I'll just type up a brief summary of
what the family seems to be. To start with, this is the very brief
description:

Francisco "Frank' MOURA, father, b~1870 Azores
(unknown parents, or place of birth)
Philomena / Filomenia (ROSE), mother, b~1875 Azores
(unknown parents, but they reportedly born in Madeira)
CH:
Elsie (Elsa??) MOURA, b~1891 reportedly Sao Miguel
Rosa MOURA, b~1893 reportedly in Sao Miguel
Francisco "Frank" MOURA, b~1893 in Sao Miguel
Manuel MOURA, b~1895 ????? in Sao Miguel
Carolina MOURA, b~1896 in Sao Miguel

~1903 Elsie MOURA arrives in MA as a 12-yr-old to be an indentured-servant
for a family in Boston. At some point she married Antonio "Tony" PACHECO,
and they married in Cambridge, MA, ~1911, and lived there. *

~1905 Rosie MOURA arrives in MA, possibly also as a 12-yr-old, possibly also
to be an indentured-servant for a family in the Boston area. At some point
Rosie marries in Somerville to Charles PERRY (probably PEREIRA).

~1912, the mother, Mrs. "Phoebe" MOURA, and her youngest daughter, Carolina
"Carrie" MOURA, arrive in MA / US, and settle in Cambridge. Possibly
they come over for Elsie's wedding, as she reportedly had saved money and
paid for their passage.

~1919, "Frank" MOURA arrived in MA/US. IF I have found the correct man,
the 1920 census has him arriving as a married man, with a wife, Anna, and 4
young children. This census shows him in New Bedford, MA. He
reportedly moved to CA, and someone just found him in the 1930 census
living in Oakland, CA, which is next to San Francisco. MOURA's in the next
town, Hayward, CA, might be related to him. (Twins seem to run in this
family, as he might have been a twin, and he had twins, and Elsie had twins,
etc.)

~1919 ??, "Manny" MOURA arrives in MA/US. "Manny" has become a mystery.
I can't find him in the 1920 census, and other researchers can't find him,
either - in any state. At some point, he moved to Brooklyn, NY, and
remained there. He hasn't been found in 1930 census for NY, either.
(However, there was a Manuel MOURA living in Hayward, CA, in 1930, but he
was 9 years older than "Frank." This "Manny" could have been a cousin, or
an uncle, or some type of relative. One "guess" is that Frank and
Manny moved to CA together during 1920's, but Manny moved his family back
to NY.

1920's, "Carrie" MOURA marries "Frank" MEDEIROS and they lived in
Somerville. *

(From memory, the "Ellis Island Museum" has MOURA people arriving in US and
heading to Brooklyn, NY. So, because Manny MOURA moved there at some
point, it's very possible he had relatives there.) (His father, "Frank"
MOURA, is a mystery, also. He was reportedly a whaler, and he could have
"died at sea." The 1920 census has his wife living in Cambridge, MA, as a
widow.)

Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

* The 3 MOURA sisters all were widowed young. They lived in Cambridge,
MA, as widows until their passing ~1980. Their mother, "Phoebe," died in
1940's in Cambridge.
