Thanks, Margaret.(Please pardon the lack of diacritical marks - my NYU email
has confounded my efforts to employ them.)

I received a scholarship from the Ministerio do Negocios Estrangeiro and spent
a month studying Portuguese language/grammar and culture at the Universidade de
Lisboa, Departamento de Lingua e Cultura Portuguesea. This was one year after
the two semesters I took elementary Brazilian portuguese language classes at
NYU (where I was teaching painting and drawing). These experiences,
back-to-back, highlighted the differences between Iberian and Brazilian
Portuguese and have made me aware of the nuances. I love both and have
immediate family from Acores, Lisboa, e Sao Paul, Brazil. :)
