Don't remove the pc directory itself, only the directories under it. 
Otherwise, you probably need to manually re-create it, and ensure 
permissions and ownership is correct.

I would keep the pool in an effort to reduce the time it will take for 
the first backup.... I don't think it should be corrupted or causing any 
problem.
