yes, unicode does quite a good job with Bangla - at least it does not
miss out any chars and things like that
to display the conjuncts, we need a renderer that is capable of handling
open type fonts
at a very basic level these fonts have tables in them which tell the
renderer what glyphs (the things what u see on the screen) to display
when it finds a particular sequence of characters
for example, if the renderer sees
ka hasat ka
it should display the glyphs for kaeka
there are other types of tables in OTF (GPOS - which handles
positioning, etc)
however, indic script is more complex than that
for example, for the sequence,
ka ikaar
the ikaar goes in front - and this means that any font renderer would
not be able to handle these scripts
however, pango, does support the bengali script - and as i have posted
in the list, it can handle otf rendering for bengali fonts (see
screenshots)
however, there might be bugs in there - since it is not well tested :)
so, i believe that we can start translating gnome right now - and what's
more, provided we get enough *working* volunteers we can start
translating the RedHat installer into bangla
this would be fun ;)
