What exactly are you looking for? If you want tab columns
numbered, just do it yourself at the top of the document:
1 2 3 4 5 etc
And if you are referring to character columns, then what happens
when you go past 9; you will need two columns to display the number.
Tell us what you really want to achieve and someone might be
able to suggest a solution.
