Jesus 'healed using cannabis'

Jesus was almost certainly a cannabis user and an early proponent of the medicinal properties of the drug, according to a study of scriptural texts published this month. The study suggests that Jesus and his disciples used the drug to carry out miraculous healings.

The anointing oil used by Jesus and his disciples contained an ingredient called kaneh-bosem which has since been identified as cannabis extract, according to an article by Chris Bennett in the drugs magazine, High Times, entitled Was Jesus a Stoner? The incense used by Jesus in ceremonies also contained a cannabis extract, suggests Mr Bennett, who quotes scholars to back his claims.

"There can be little doubt about a role for cannabis in Judaic religion," Carl Ruck, professor of classical mythology at Boston University said.

Referring to the existence of cannabis in anointing oils used in ceremonies, he added: "Obviously the easy availability and long-established tradition of cannabis in early Judaism... would inevitably have included it in the [Christian] mixtures."

Mr Bennett suggests those anointed with the oils used by Jesus were "literally drenched in this potent mixture... Although most modern people choose to smoke or eat pot, when its active ingredients are transferred into an oil-based carrier, it can also be absorbed through the skin".

Quoting the New Testament, Mr Bennett argues that Jesus anointed his disciples with the oil and encouraged them to do the same with other followers. This could have been responsible for healing eye and skin diseases referred to in the Gospels.

"If cannabis was one of the main ingredients of the ancient anointing oil... and receiving this oil is what made Jesus the Christ and his followers Christians, then persecuting those who use cannabis could be considered anti-Christ," Mr Bennett concludes.

HIGH TIMES
BACK TO THE GARDEN
The religious revelations in this book will leave you saying "Holy Shit."
by Preston Peet

Authors Chris Bennett and Neil McQueen have created an exhaustive study of both the Old and New Testaments in their book, Sex, Drugs, Violence and the Bible (Forbidden Fruit Publishing). The book will disturb most devout followers of the Jewish and Christian faiths as portrayed in the modern Bible.

Starting with the Old Testament tale of the Garden of Eden, asserting that the Tree of Life was cannabis sativa and that the Cain and Abel story “may in fact have been a contrived piece of propaganda against certain sacrificial rites of Near Eastern fertility cults,” the authors move merrily along, documenting various respected religious figures who partake in the smoke of cannabis-laden incense and other psychedelic substances, and who fornicate and commit slaughter before, during and after communing with their God.

The authors then dissect the New Testament, giving evidence that not only Jesus may have been married and/or gay, but to attain his Messiah-hood, he was anointed by John the Baptist with an oil that contained large amounts of cannabis. Most alarmingly to the devout, Jesus and his disciples may have pulled off an elaborate hoax utilizing drugs to feign death in the crucifixion and resurrection incident.

The authors rely not only on the tracts the modern Bible contains, but also on many early Jewish and Christian texts, like those of the Gnostics that were excluded as heretical by early Church fathers.

Bennett and McQueen assert that religion, as portrayed in the Bible today, is basically a tool used in a conspiracy to further isolate humanity from the natural world.

“The Highway to Hell is indeed paved,” they write. “The rediscovery of the entheogens [plant hallucinogens] may offer us a means of reacquaintance with the natural order, and a way to return back to the garden. For if there is one thing that can break through the pavement encasing our earthly paradise, it's a weed.”

Qhaneh Bosm: Cannabis and the Bible

"Then the Lord said to Moses, "Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of qhaneh-bosm, 500 shekels of cassia--all according to the sanctuary shekel--and a hind of olive oil. Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil." Exodus 30:23

It is this term "qhaneh bosm”, or fragrant cane, that is the most remarkable of mistranslations found within the Bible. When it was rendered into Greek it became "calamus", a common marsh plant that had no place in the sacred anointing oil of Yahweh. But so it has come down to us. In fact the Hebrew term is qhaneh bosm, or kaneh bosm. According to Rabbi Herschels Hebrew-English dictionary, such eminent scholars as Sula Benet, Weston LaBarre and the British journal New Scientist, what this term refers to is none other than cannabis. Indeed the "m" which ends the word is the Hebrew plural, so in the singular it reads as 'kaneh bos" which doesn't take a leap of faith to be understood for what it is. And this opens up a whole new world of interpretation of the Good Book. A very remarkable interpretation indeed...

As one shekel equals approximately 16.37 grams, this means that the THC of over 9 pounds of flowering cannabis tops, were extracted into a hind, about 6.5 litres of oil. The entheogenic effects of such a solution, even when applied topically, would undoubtedly have been intense. Only those who had been \b dedicated by the anointing oil of...God" (Leviticus 21:12) were permitted to act as priests. In the "holy" state produced by the anointing oil the priests were forbidden to leave the sanctuary precincts (Leviticus 21:12), and the above passage from Exodus, makes quite clear the sacredness of this ointment, the use of which the priests jealously guarded.

Around 1980, etymologists at Hebrew University in Jerusalem confirmed that cannabis is mentioned in the Bible by name, in a list of measured ingredients for "an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of apothecary to be smeared on the head. The word was mistranslated in King James version as ‘calamus’. - Exodus 30:23

"Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be most holy. Then anoint the altar of burnt offerings and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy." - Exodus 40:9

" The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me... " - Isaiah 61:1

The Messiah

As we have seen, the Hebrews held the anointing in the highest esteem. It was to be used only in the consecration of the high priests and the tent of meetings. Over time however the sacred anointing came to be used in the coronation ritual of the high kings of Israel also.

As we have seen the anointing oil was originally intended to consecrate the tent of the tabernacles and the high priests of the house of Levi. When Israel became a an player on the field of Near -Eastern politics, the uses of the oil came to include corona ting the kings of Israel.

" Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on Saul's head and kissed him, saying, "Has not the Lord  anointed  you leader over his inheritance"(1 Samuel 10:1). After anointing Saul, Samuel tells him that shortly " The Spirit of the Lord will come upon you in power...and you will be changed into a different person"(1 Samuel 10:6)

in this passage we can see the psycho-active properties of the oil at work . After being anointed Saul is "changed into a different person. ( 1 Samuel 10:6)

Samuel tells Saul that when this happens, he will come across a band of prophets (Nebiim) coming down from a mountaintop, "with harp, tambourine, flute, and lyre before them prophesying" (1 Samuel 10:5), and that Saul will join them.

"Zadok the priest took the horn one of oil from the sacred tent and anointed Solomon. " (1 Kings 1:39)

"I have exalted a young man from among the people. I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him. My hand will sustain him ...and through my name his horn will be exalted. " (Psalm 89:19-24)

The association with the imagery of a fish and the title Messiah, goes back to even pre-Christian times, as in the Talmud the title Messiah is intertwined with the word Dag: "The only satisfactory explanation why Jesus should be represented as a Fish , seems to be that in the quaint jargon of the Talmud the Messiah is often designated 'Dag' or 'The Fish'" (King 1864)"...the Fish takes its place in importance as a sign of Christ in his special office of  Savior.... In the Talmud the Messiah is called 'Dag' or 'Fish'.... Where did the Jews learn to apply 'Dag' to their Messiah? And why did the primitive Christians adopt it as a sign of Christ?... I cannot disguise facts. Truth demands no concealment or apology. Paganism has its types and prophecies of Christ as well as Judaism. What then is the Dag-on of the old Babylonians? The fish- god or being that taught them all their civilization"(Lundy 1876)

sAnointing "was common among kings of Israel. It was the sign and symbol of royalty. The word ' Messiah' signifies the 'Anointed One', and none of the kings of Israel were styled the Messiah unless anointed"(Doane 1882)

Another example of a sovereign being instated through the rite of anointing is Jehu. Jehu is secretly anoint him king over Israel in the North. Elisha is very specific about what he is to do next: " Then open the door and run; don't delay! "(2 Kings 9:3)

" I have exalted a young man from among the people. I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him. My hand [i.e. phallus]\b will sustain him ....and through my name his horn will be exalted " (Psalm 89:19-24)

As Professor C.J. Gadd noted, throughout the ancient Near East, at the coronation of kings, the new monarch was imbued with "magical powers... [from] the oil with which kings were anointed" (Gadd 1948).

"Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king" (1 Samuel 16:1).

"Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power. "(1 Samuel 16:13).

The Christ

As we know, one of the main ingredients of the anointing oil was cannabis. There was enough cannabis used to make this oil a very powerful psychoactive. As well as being used by Moses, Aaron, and the priests of the Levites, whose station was conferred by the use of the anointing oil, anointment also came to be the means of coronating the new kings of Israel and Judah. All those who experienced the anointing oil first hand were then known as the anointed or in Hebrew the messiah.

This is a term that may be familiar to many of us. But it is with this title that there lies a surprise. For the Hebrew term messiah translates into English as "anointed one"; while in Greek it is none other than "Christ". Christ, like Messiah, means anointed one. In order to be the Christ one had to have been anointed. If he hadn't been anointed he never would have been the Christ.

As we have seen the anointing oil went out of practice following the return of the exiles from Babylon, a decline that continued through the Maccabean revolts and the Roman occupation where there are only scanty references to the oil. But there is ample evidence that Jesus re-introduced the psychoactive anointing oil and that it was in common usage among the early Christians. as the Christ or Anointed One this may hold the key to the central mystery of his life.

The polemical writings of many of the early Church fathers gives us one view into the lives, beliefs and practices of the "heretical" Gnostics. To these early dogmatists the Gnostics were following a patently false view of Jesus and had to be either corrected or wiped out. But it through there writings that we can see that indeed the anointing oil was held in special reverence by the Gnostics and that there was a special power within it that they viewed as being very important:

"Celsus reports of the Ophite Gnostics that they possessed a 'seal' the recipient of which was made a 'son' of the 'Father'; his response was: 'I have been anointed with the ointment from the tree of life.... In some [Gnostic] texts like the Pistis Sophia and the Books of Jeu [Ieou] the 'spiritual ointment' is a prerequisite for entry into the pleroma, by which the highest 'mystery' is meant." (Rudolph 1987) Likewise the Naasenes "claimed to be the true Christians because they were anointed with the 'ineffable chrism,' poured out by the serpentine 'horn of plenty'"(Mead 1900). In the Gnostic viewpoint, as recorded in the Gospel of Philip, the pseudo-initiates of the empty rite of Baptism "go down into the water and come up without having received anything,". Here we can see that baptism which became so central to the notion of being "saved" in Catholic Christianity wasn't viewed with the same reverence as the anointing oil, or the "chrism" by the Gnostics. To the Gnostics it is the anointing oil that holds the key to grace:

"There is water in water, there is fire in chrism." Gospel of Philip. "The anointing with oil was the introduction of the candidate into unfading bliss, thus becoming a Christ" (Mead 1900).

Indeed the Gnostic tractate the Gospel of Philip records that the " anointing chrism is superior to baptism. For from the anointing we were called 'anointed ones' (Christians), not because of the baptism. And Christ also was (so) named because of the anointing, for the Father anointed the son, and the son anointed the apostles, and the apostles anointed us. He (therefore) who has been anointed has the All. He has the resurrection, the light, the cross, the Holy Spirit..." Throughout the text "light" is "associated usually with chrism" (Isenberg 1978) , and it is stated that if "one receives this unction...this person is no longer a Christian but a Christ" (Gospel of Philip). Similarly, The Gospel of Truth records that Jesus specifically came into their midst so that he "might anoint them with the ointment. The ointment is the mercy of the Father...those whom he has anointed are the ones who have become perfect".

Likewise the early Christians were Christians because and only because they had been anointed with the holy anointing oil.
The Crucifiction

Cannabis is perhaps the most remarkable plant to human culture. The list of its characteristics encompasses almost all aspects of human culture and it is easy to understand how our ancient ancestors were so enthralled with it. The ancient Assyrians knew it as the “Royal Grain” as its seed is the most complete protein known to humanity. There are acids in the cannabis seed that are the closest analogs to human blood plasma. It is a powerful psychoactive which was used as a religious sacrament from time immemorial. The fibres of the cannabis plant may have been the first fabric woven and even been used in the original creation of this ancient art.

There is a little known characteristic of cannabis along with the above-mentioned ancient uses. Those cultures that have longed been associated with cannabis know that it is also not only a very powerful psycho-active but that in enormous doses it is also one of the few hypnotics in the world. A hypnotic is a substance that can induce a cataleptic state in a human, or other mammals. Cataleptic states are death-like trances in which the body will enter a state of intense trance in which all the life processes seem to end. Breath and heartbeat are so slowed as to be almost undetectable.

"Catalepsy is a mysterious condition, characterized by immobility of the muscles which can sometimes be mistaken for death. The limbs have a 'waxy flexibility' and can be moulded into bizarre positions where they remain indefinitely." (Wilkins 19)

Robert Anton Wilson referred to tests sponsored by the US army in the 1950's, where" THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), psycho-active chemical that is found in cannabis... put dogs into 'hibernation' or deep sleep for eight days, after which they were awakened and showed no ill effects- (Wilson 1973) The Army felt this would revolutionize Battlefield medicine, injured soldiers could be kept in storage until the proper medical help was made available. According to Wilson's account, a Scientist involved with this study fought the Army in the courts for twenty years to have this information released. (Wilson 1973).

"Eminent medical doctors in India, principally Calcutta, have made experiments with Cannabis Indica and have discovered that it induces symptoms of catalepsy or even trance. It is also claimed that the fakeers of India who suffer themselves to be buried, and who are later disinterred, do so through . . .
