Subject: Re: [bestcharts] OY VAY -- version 4.40Dear Mike,I support you view about the new version of Best Charts. It only makes the operation more messy.I tried installing it twice, hoping that there would be a change for the better.I already have a couple of problems with the current version. On the Intraday microcharts, which displays charts provided by http://finance.yahoo.com, on a page containing 40 charts over 75% have mumerical codes of six digits instead of name-codes of just 4 letters, of the scrips until about 3 aweeks ago. This makes easy identification of scrips impossible, unless we maintain a list of number codes and the name of the corresponding scrip. Even when maintaining such a list, idenfying the scrip is no easy task. Best-Charts is not responsible for this. But on writing to Yahoo, about it requesting them revert to their user-friendly style of identifying scrips by the four letter name-codes, pointing out the inconvenience of this change to the user, there is neither a change in this practise nor any response from them.Again, under portfolio drop-box, where there is provision to maintain 20 lists of portfolios containing 40 scrips each, niether the name of the list given by the user n-r the list number provided is found on the intraday microchart. This makes it difficult to identify the list that has been opened. If Best-Charts is able do impress on the Yahoo site about the difficulties due to this change to the users, it would bea great favour. Writing to them directly does not produce any response.Thanking you,Yours sincerely,Shyam Raj=========================================================================hey peoples,
i have need to express my likes and dislikes of what could be an excellent platform. unfortunately, whoever is doing the design work appears to be more "geek" oriented than "people" oriented, and the interface, satisfying to those who love computer intrigue, will not be a commercial success simply because people cant work it well.
in the early days of computing, i became a macintosh user, simply because if one used DOS, one needed to learn a slew of commands and one needed their "geek" to "configure" the operating system to handle the tasks you needed to do. the macintosh, by comparison, was simply point, click and go !
the personal computer did not take off until microsoft finally got "windows" somewhere near where macintosh had it since 1984 -- people friendly and almost understandable !
the very "flexibility" inherent in this excellent piece of software (bes! tcharts) is the very thing that will probably prevent its commercial success ! we dont want flexibility that only a geek would love -- we want to click the button and have the program do what its supposed to do, with no ifs, ands or buts ! for what the program is capable of doing, the price should be considered sensational but, unfortunately, the interface and chunkiness guarantees the market will remain minuscule, as most simply cannot use it without a very steep learning curve !
the software is extremely viable as a commercial application, BUT THE GENERAL PUBLIC WANTS AND NEEDS a piece of software that demands little to nothing from them !
the software has long needed a "people" oriented designer to step in and take it to its next stage --- PLEASE get rid of the "engineering" interface and put a "people" interface in there instead !
just some fast thoughts on what i would love to see as a "real" application !
