Hello
I've just bought a mid-80s Faggin frame/fork on eBay, built from
Columbus SLX tubing. It won't be coming with a headset and the seller
could tell me it has a 45mm stack height but couldn't give me crown
race diameter. Is this enough information to select a headset or do I
need to wait to receive the frame/fork to actually measure the crown
race diameter?
Sheldon indicates that Italian, ISO, and JIS 1" threaded headsets all
have the same 22.2mm stem ID on the steerer and the same frame cup OD
of 30.2mm, but the Italian crown race ID can be either 26.5 or 27.0mm,
vs. the 26.4mm of the ISO.
I'd like to find a moderate cost headset that will fit and that has
cartridge bearings (hoping to not have to spring for Chris King, and
that a Shimano 105 or similar will work).
May I assume that any headset with a stack height less than the 45mm
this frame has will work, with added spacers if needed?
Any advice or insights would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.
