I've used my Edge 605 in the car with success a couple of times. There
is a setting in the menu for it to give you routing based on bicycle
or automobile travel. You can also tell it to avoid main roads if you
are in a car. It definitely changes the routing. You can select from a
pre-populated list of locations or enter in an address and get turn by
turn directions from your current location to your destination.

Due to the size of the screen and the work required in entering an
address, I would not enter one while driving. I would also state that
(IMHO) the optional street level maps are a *must* have addition to
the Edge 605 for anything other than mapping a path taken. The major
highways are in the base maps, but the card has very accurate maps
down to the rural county gravel road level. I've found a few
inaccuracies in the last few months, but nothing that a small amount
of logic didn't keep me from figuring out. It would be nice if they
were bundled with the unit at purchase time. Stores local to me did
not have the cards in stock. I've also noticed that the local
retailers tended to jump from the 305 to the 705, which was a larger
jump in cost, and features, than I was willing to finance.

Hope this helps
