I agree with Tim on this one.  I like the described new bicycle facilities
being included in the project, but adding a ultra-wide bridge and four wide
lanes for automobiles on what is a neighborhood street will turn that street
into a freeway cut-through for all of the rural Dane Co (and further) commuters
rushing to get into urban areas. What we need is for those people to have
problems driving through the neighborhood so they begin to think twice about
the commuter lifestyle out in the exurbs.

>>RE:  Public
Information Meeting for High Point Road over USH 12 Bridge Replacement and West
Towne Bike Path Projects
>>You are invited to attend a public information meeting for
the upcoming construction of two interrelated projects; the replacement of the
High Point Road Bridge over USH 12 (the Beltline) by the Wisconsin Department
of Transportation, and construction of a proposed bike path along the Beltline
by the City of Madison. These projects are described in more detail below,
along with contact information.
>>Tuesday September 24, 4:30 pm-6:30 pm, Community Room at
City of Madison West District Police Station, 1710 McKenna Blvd, Madison
>>WisDOT High Point
Road over USH 12 Bridge Replacement Project
>>The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is developing
plans for the proposed replacement of the High Point Road bridge over the
Beltline. The existing bridge has a deteriorated, two-lane deck and substandard
clearance over the highway. The project will consist of replacing the existing
bridge and approaches to accommodate four lanes of traffic plus bike lanes, wide
sidewalk on the east side and a separate, multi-use path on the west side.
>>West Towne Bike Path
Project
>>The City of Madison is developing plans for a bike and
pedestrian path along the north side of the Beltline from the existing path at
Grand Canyon Drive (Struck Street underpass) to west of High Point Road.  At
High Point Road the path would connect to
the proposed bridge over the Beltline, cross to the south over the Beltline,
and ultimately continue west to CTH M.
