Greetings: What a great couple of hours! Two Virginia Rail were "kidicking"
near the entrance (were Tiny parks his vehicle). We saw "8" more Virginia
Rail and heard many more. Tiny and I estimate that there are at least 12
(perhaps more) Virginia Rail in the Wetland. The eight that we saw were not
shy and did not move when being photographed and just observed. We could
hear the Sora but today it remained hidden.

Also observed: Red winged Black birds, Common Grackle, Yellow Warbler, many
Robins, Moorhen, Gadwall, Northern Flicker, Chickadee, Ring Billed gulls,
Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Killdeer, Least Sandpipers, Northern
Shoveller, nesting Mute Swan, Mallard, Green-winged Teal, Osprey, Oriole,
Marsh Wren, Mourning Doves, Double Crested Cormorant, Blue Jay, Brown-headed
Cowbird, Tree Swallow, Rough-winged Swallow. Tiny say several Lesser
Yellowlegs during the week. There are also three Canada Geese families - 2
with 5 goslings and 1 with 3.

Tiny will open the Wetland tomorrow - May 10th - between 1:30 and 2:30 pm as
a group from Ottawa will be visiting.

For Tiny - Joan

Directions: The Constructed Wetland is located at the SE corner of
Brighton. From Hwy 401, take the Brighton exit 509 (Hwy. 30) and follow
it south into town. Go south through the two traffic lights, over
the railway tracks and follow the main road, now called Prince Edward
Street, south. About 1 km south of the tracks, the main road begins
to swing to the left and becomes County Rd. 64. As this long turn
ends the Constructed Wetlands appear on the right side. Look for the
Wetland viewing sign at the east end of the Wetland.
