Hi Sue,
I have had three or four sheep reject lambs. They
have been first time mothers usually, but not always.
I have always just taken a sheep halter and tied Momma
in a corner. She has a tab or hay in front of her and a
bucket of water hung up where she can reach it but
the lambs cannot fall into it. Keep her tied for three
days so she can't compare lambs and decide which
one she likes or dislikes and after the three days I
have never had them reject. Maybe they are so grateful
to be loose! I have also seen where the shepherd takes
twins and puts them together in a burlap sack just on
the other side of the ewes pen and just takes them out
to nurse Mom every two hours for a day or two. The
lambs then smell the same and I guess it confuses the
ewe as to who is the rejectee and who is the favorite.
