Hello, Isabella, our youngest black Barbados ewe at 11 months delivered a bouncing black ewe lamb. She had prolapsed a few weeks back, so we put onthe harness and gave her a few shots of penicillan. Then over the weekend, she prolapsed again, so on went the harness. Tuesday, about midmorning, I looked out and saw membranes hanging from her and Geep, our wooly curious ram) messing with her. So I ran out to help only to find that she had already delivered her lamb!!!! I was able to catch the lamb, no problem, but Isabella just wouldn't follow. So I put little lambie into the lambing pen and I finally was able to get her with a bucket of corn, of course I had to pick her up to get her to her lamb.
Everything seemed to be going well until last night, I went to give her grain for dinner. She wouldn't come out from under the tarp. I went under to check and Isabella had little bits of hay and food stuck all over her muzzle, like she had thrown up. But she and the lamb were alert. I dumped out the molasses water, thinking possibly the stickiness caused hay to stick. Then I noticed that the lambie wanted to nurse, but Isabella just lay down. So I ran inside and made up some milk replacer and got about 1/2 oz into the lamb before Isabella had a fit and the lambie ran to her and nursed on her. I was able to strip the teats and get milk out of them on day 1. Now this lamb doesn't wag her tail while she's drinking, but she comes out licking her chops and she's warm and her belly fills up. Also, the lambie has very pale yellow poop. I'm used to the bright orange poop of lambs. Isabella has soft poop too. Do you see any problems with any of this? Am I just being a nervous Nellie?
