We had our first lambs of the year born yesterday
afternoon. Twins, one boy and one girl. The girl is
white with blackbelly markings, the boy is brown but
darker than normal. My friend is wondering if, like
cats and dogs, the lambs could have different
fathers??Anyone know?
...A friend helped me band the ram lamb born last
year, twice but the testicle still sucked up inside so
he is still able to breed. He is white, so we are
assuming he fathered these lambs.
To put my two cents in, I agree with all that has been
said and advice given. Like Cecil said, If the Ram was
old enough to breed then the learned habit will
probably stay with him. But as the other lady said, if
he still has one testicle intact then he's defiantly
going to try to breed. I have a 4 year old Wether,
that was fixed at about a month old and I've never
seen him interested in anything but the feed bucket
and playing with the young lambs.
On the subject of colors of the lambs, again as Cecil
said, if you don't have a long line of what's in the
linage then it's anybodies guess. On of my blackbelly
girls had twins, both black belly, but one is light
brown with a hint of white on his sides just like his
daddy, but the little girl is a dark dark brown, I
call it mahogany just like her grandfather. As to the
being breed by more than one Ram? That is a good
question.
thanks Bill
