A recent change to the way aliases are scanned into the catalog has caused issues like this for a few people. Quicksilver now attempts to get additional information about the original item that the alias points to. A lot of people have old aliases to files on network shares that no longer exist or are unreachable. Make sure you don’t have any such aliases.
Another common source of freezes is the Contacts plug-in, so you could try temporarily disabling it to see if that helps. I’ve [attempted to fix][1] that one, but no one has had time to look it over.
