OK, I will be using Oracle's plug-in, until something happen (good new
code, update in blfs, or I find some solution myself - this last option
being improbable). I do not feel comfortable with that binary, though.

Do not think so. I have 1.7.0.40-2.4.{0,1} in opt, so with just a change
in the symlink, and restart of ff, it works as intended again,
presented a pop-up, this morning. Tested in one physical and in one
virtual machines (built openjdk and icedtea-web in both machines and
both openjdks).
