You don't need to click, simply hit the letter Y and maybe enter afterwards
as it has been a while for me.

I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I'll probably screw that one up
too.

Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Message I get when I attempt to Defrag

Hi Alan;

This is what I typed into the run dialog box.

chkdsk /f

When I did this I got a message saying something about the volume was being
used by another process and would I like to do this at the next startup.,
(Y/N). I couldn't click on either the Y or N, for yes or no, and my wife
couldn't click on either one with the mouse. Whenever I restarted the
computer, it started normally with sound & Jaws. Personally I couldn't
believe that I don't have 1 single note on using, chkdsk, but, you can be
damn sure I will have, after this! LOL

But, all is not lost afterall! I have the program,, Defraggler, made by the
same people that make CCleaner and my drive is being defragmented as I type.
I just need to learn more about, chkdsk, & how it works or, how it supposed
to work. Thank you & David for your attempts to help me with this
situation. I do feel a Doctor Phil session coming on! Thanks much. Take
care.
MIke

  Mike,

ok, sorry about that. You can do what David says in his
response to you but as he pointed out you will not have
speech etc during the process. I only do this with my C
drive as the operating system is on that. Here is how I do
external drives. Go to my computer to see what drive letter
the external drive is. Then listen to the line typed below
and enter it into the run dialogue box exactly as typed
including the spaces. Substitute the word driveletter with
the letter of the external drive you want to do the chkdsk
  on, ok?

  chkdsk driveletter: /f

  Hi Alan;

I copied the line, chkdsk drive letter: /f, into the run
  dialog box, hit
enter, & nothing happened. I have absolutly no experience
  with CHKDSK, so
if I didn't wrong please let me know. Thanks much. Take
  care.

    Mike,

I would go ahead and run the chkdsk utility to ensure all
  is
ok prior to defrag. You can do this while you are using
  your
computer since it is not the drive with your operating
system on it. What I do with my external and/or slave
  drives
    is the following:

    1. bring up the run dialogue box
    2. type the following line:
    chkdsk drive letter: /f

I use the f switch to automatically correct any errors.

This may take some time due to the size of the drive. Hope
    this helps

    Al

    Defrag

    Hi All;

I am attempting to defrag an 2TB Fantom / Micronet
  external
    hardrive but, I
    am receiving the following message.

    Disk Defragmenter
Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to
    run on the
    volume: Arcadia (F:).
    Please run Chkdsk /f.
    OK

I have never received this message before. What should I
    do? I am running
XP Home with Jaws10 latest. All help will be greatly
    appreciated. Thanks
    much. Take care.
