I just called and they are $14.95. will pick one up next week. I think that I can start the recording then later use gold wave to break the files.

What you want is known as an atenuated patch cord. Radio Shack carried them once upon a time and still might.

Is there a resistance cable made to use a cd player hooked to your sound card to transfer the music to the computer? I remember such a cable for audio use in the late 1960s. I do not remember what impedance would be required to match for the mic input from an ear phone output.
