Changing the audio perspective doesn't change the fact it is a
side-scroller just how the audio is presented. If you are facing a rope
which is on your right it would come from the front rather than from the
right.
However, in the original that same object would be on your right
regardless of what direction you were actually facing.
You are right that surround sound setups could be a concern for some
gamers. So being able to switch between them is a good idea, or just
stick with the original audio output.
