Ohhhhhh, another one who has been led astray by the big, round decoy
under the dash. :)

Not all E36 3ers have the driver kick panel gong. An annunciater
within the instrument cluster provides both the turn signal clicks and
the lights-on warning.

There is a thumper in the steering column surround. Don't let the
signal run when parked, lest you attract sand worms.

Ummm, if the car did that, I would be pinpointing your tires as the problem.

Mike:

The 89 iC stranded you, not the 88 iS. I'd forgotten
the hot start problem, but it must have been the main
relay. An easy fix. With the E30 it isn't money you
need, it is time, which is frequently more annoying to
have to dispense.

I am glad that other people own those cars now. Not
that the old 944 is any different. <grin>

P.S. I did tell you about the sticking starter on your
POS, right? LOL!

Starring at a E30 conv sitting in the drive that needs
attention. I dread working on that POS, they are
possessed. When your 325IS lived at my house, it
stranded me about 2 miles from home, someone forgot to
tell me the gauges acted up. Or the fact it had a
hot start problem, among the long list, lol.

I have put $2500 in that damn thing with the new top,
new suspension and driveshaft etc. I would give it
away except my mother thinks it would be great to have
a weekend convertible. So I am going to pass that
curse on to my father for upkeep.

Subject: Changing coolant sensors?
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Howdy, all. I know that coolant level sensor failures are not that
uncommon. It's been bad in my 1995 740iL for some time; it pings every
time, but whenever I check the level cold, it's perfect, so I'm assuming
it's a bad sensor. I'm told that it's in the bottom of the coolant
reservoir. Does anyone have a DIY or tips on how to replace it? Tough job?

In a related problem... two days ago, the coolant TEMPERATURE warning
started to go off. The gauge would swing towards the red, I'd pull off the
road, but before I could shut the engine off, the gauge would swing back to
dead middle. Hmmm. I watched the gauge, and it would swing right, then
back to normal, in the span of 5-7 seconds. I decided that it was unlikely
that the coolant would overheat, then cool, then overheat, then cool that
quickly. It's since happened again 2-3 times, but the car continues to run
without any problems, even in 95+ degree weather yesterday, so I've
concluded that this too is a result of a bad sensor. Where is this sensor
located? Near the coolant LEVEL sensor? Does anyone have a DIY or tips on
how to replace it? Tough job?

BTW, this car did have the usual radiator and other cooling component
replacements done a couple of years ago.

Thanks in advance on both fronts!

'95 740iL, which continues to crank out cold A/C in ridiculously warm
weather west of Boston
'00 528iT, cools just as well, though it lacks a "max" button
