Hi Kevin, Vicky and all,

I am not sure whether it makes a difference if you switch the PK off with
C1-C4. The batteries would discharge eventually and would lock up as
described before. As Kevin suggested, I would leave the PK plugged in if you
were going to leave it for an extended length of time.

I am no authority on this subject, and am just passing on a warning because
I didn't know the situation existed.

Cheers
Kylie

Kylie,

Thanks for the information. So then is it advisable to just leave the unit
plugged in when not in use or when in storage?

Subject: [Braillenote] Important: PK battery warning

Hi all PK users

I just got my PK back from a service and was given some interesting
information.

Apparently, unlike the other BrailleNotes, the PK cannot be left fully
uncharged for a prolonged length of time. If the batteries are left
completely flat for a while, the lithium cells will lock and won't allow the
battery to charge again. I have actually seen this happen to another PK
which could not be charged, or even switched on, after it had been left flat
for a few weeks.

I don't know exactly how long the batteries can last before the lock, but it
is something to bear in mind if you plan to leave your unit unplugged or in
storage for a long time.

Cheers

Kylie
