You might recall that I wrote the list awhile back about the
problem with my BNPK. And, well, I have done nothing with the
unit at this point, and may very well just decide not to spend
anymore money on this almost six-year old unit. But, I did email
HW tech support and explain the problem with the PK. And, I was
kind of impressed that I heard back from them within just a day.
The first email I got asked me if I had access to a PC with
ActiveSync, but did not explain as to why the question was being
asked. I responded and said that, although I did have a PC with
Windows Vista and Windows Mobile Device Center, I had already
tried hooking up the PK to it and that the PC wouldn't recognize
the PK at all. I then got back a message the next day advising
me that I probably needed to send in the PK, although the email
didn't offer any further instructions or an RMA or suggest I call
HW to make the necessary arrangements.

HW does not reply much on this list, unlike gwm. However, the
delay in
gwm's newest upgrade is comparable to the delay in keysoft
upgrades
from hw, and I have not seen users request features which were
then
implemented on either device. I think both companies go for
features
they feel will be most useful to the most users, so as to intise
as
many as possible to pay for the upgrades. Of course, gwm
upgrades are
currently free, though gwm has said that they do not know how
long
this practice will continue.
I suppose my basic point is that there is little difference in
responsiveness to upgrade requests, but gwm upgrades are (for the
moment) free and their company does a better job at publically
responding to users' concerns and questions on their email list.

Hi,
From what I've seen lately, they do respond (although in the
"behind the
scenes" way). The recent firmware updates came out once about
every two to
three months, which is a slight improvement over a year or two
ago.
As for .docx support, HW did say they are working on it. But as
it turns
out, the formatting of these files (at least the underlying
formatting) is
the biggest factor in some difficulty in implementing it. Well,
I expect Hw
to make some announcements by mid summer.
Just a hint for you: BSP 5.5 firmware (yes, the new firmware is
5.5) is in
its final Beta testing stage (in Korean); the feature sets would
mean Apex
and that one would be pretty matched... Sorry couldn't
resist...
Cheers,
Joseph

I am inclined to go for the apex but what concerns me is how
responsive are
humanware to customer feedback and the fact that they seem
rather slow to
implement changes for example the move to doc x files being
supported on the
braille note. any thoughts welcome in helping me reach a final
decision!
thanks in advance.
Cheers
