Exiting the document before switching tasks is probably the safest thing to do. But if you save the document using [q] control with s [b] space with s, then the document should still be there when you return to it.

The BN's "task switching" isn't a true process because the task you are in actually closes when you switch to something else.

I don't know if it would be safe to use the options menu to get to the task menu, but it's like "going around Robin Hood's barn," as my geometry teacher used to say when we'd go through extra steps to get to the right answer.
