The hair worked better than hair had been done before, and even then,
they took the easy route out by making the hair black. Hair is
incredibly difficult to model. Fur isn't *as* difficult - see "Stuart
Little" for confirmation. Pila cilia as in Lenagh's illustration
ougtn't be anywhere near as difficult as hair. In theory, it could be
done. In practice, I'm not the one to do it, so I can't say totally for
certain. :)
