Plus the occasional logic gaps, like using officers trained as fighter pilots for grunts!
I go to a lot of media SF cons. I could never get the serious S:A&B fans I would encounter at these cons to understand how unrealistic that was. Anyone can be a foot soldier (well, if not anyone, then certainly a lot more than can be fighter pilots).
