The "politician" part is more involved in seeking office than in exercising it. I've thought myself, often, that drafting our leadership would if nothing else give us a government that actually represents us, and would remove the incentive to exploit the power of the office for the sole purpose of getting re-elected, which is what we have now. It's much harder to game that system than it is to game the current one by manipulating voters into wanting to vote for you.
