Eh? Obviously I need to read the Conference minutes... last I knew, UKUA was going to enforce publishing of tournament finances, so that: a) people would know how much profit can be made from running a tournament, and thus be inspired to run their own, hopefully leading to a bidding war which would bring prices back down to 'sensible' levels; b) people could assess whether the facilities garnered for the money paid were worthwhile, and thus take appropriate action (e.g. 'voting with their feet') so that future tournament prices became more 'sensible'.
I have no problem with people making profits from tournaments, but I feel that reason a) above is VERY valid and should be stuck to. Who voted at conference? Everyone, or a select group? My immediate suggestion: GAZUMPING - arrange and offer the same tournament (dates, venue, facilities, luxuries) out to UKUA teams at £20 less. You know, each time I re-read that last paragraph, I get more serious about the idea....
