Talking hypothetically... If, starting tomorrow, all competitive Ultimate was played with referees taking over responsibility for foul calls... ...In ten years time, what kind of behaviour would you be likely to see at more casual games of Ultimate, taking place without refs?
If a future generation of Ultimate players got out of the habit of resolving incidents themselves, I think we'd be in all kinds of trouble at a grass roots level. I'm not a stick-in-the-mud kind of guy, but I'm struggling to see what we gain from having refs. Even if it succeeded in eliminating one kind of injustice, it would only open the door to another. But what the hell, play a few games and see what happens. Paul PS Steve, I'd be happy to receive your list of "non-PC" English phrases and expressions for future reference. Hoping "stick-in-the- mud" isn't on it.
