Whether it ends up being an entertaining fast paced competitive sport, more
appealing to spectators and players from other field sports, or a foul-fest
marred by contact, Oscar-worthy 3-rolls-or-it-wasn't-a-foul diving and
laughable attempts to con the ref(s) remains to be seen. I'm hoping for a
little of both.

Let's not quibble about whether it is ultimate or not. It is. One could
easily say indoor Ultimate or World Games Ultimate 'is not ultimate' as
their rules are slightly different (and of course indoors is just wrong :).
Like Steve says, Ultimate is a silly name for our sport anyway so we should
just call this one Flatball - it's much more in keeping with the Major
League moniker. Once we invite some Euro teams we can call it Major
International League Flatball (or just MILF).

Subject: Re: [BD] Major League Ultimate

This has gone on a long time. Just to clarify, the term "Major
League" is taken from the original name from which the rule set was
taken. The MLU guys in the UK didn't make it up and as such are not
likely looking to alienate anyone by using this phrase. It was simply
some folks in the USA who made it up likening it to MLB (Major League
Baseball). Very much like the name of the sport Ultimate which when
you first encounter it sounds quite arrogant in itself as a name for a
sport. 30+ years later that's what it's called, we didn't name it and
we're used to it now.

In the end given the task as hand to train refs, establishing an
agreed team selection method and selectors (knowing a bit about what
goes on in GB selection I can guess this won't be decided easily or
quickly), and getting players who can and want to play it and can
afford whatever it'll cost, sounds like a nightmare. If it does
happen I guarantee that I will definitely be there to watch.

Lastly....isn't it racist to use the expression "cotton-pickin'"?
