Hey there BD, Here are a few of my views about the on going Major League Ultimate debate.
1. Over the last year Ultimate has been recognised by Sport UK and has received unprecedented attention from schools and the press. It is very marketable in it's current form. 2. Much of the attention from schools is BECAUSE the sport is self-refereeing, not in spite of it. 3. IF the UK Ultimate community desires greater officiating during games then the UPA style system of observers should be adopted before anything else. It seems obvious to use a system which HAS been successful in the USA than one which hasn't. 4. The elite players of the UK have enough on their plates with out being poached by a rival sport. 5. MLU is an unwanted and unnecessary distraction from the successful efforts of the UKUA to promote and grow the sport of Ultimate in the UK. 6. Dave Grayson: A "giggle" is international rules 2 on 2 Ultimate. (as played at a York mixed tour a few years back to much harmless amusement.) 7. If the MLU committee have the audacity to use an Ultimate mailing list to try and recruit players for another sport, without any consultation with the sport's governing body, the least I'd expect is to see the names of the people involved at the bottom. Finally I welcome any discussion about the development of the sport in the UK. I hope that the people with passionate views on the matters raised in this discussion can work with the UKUA to develop THIS sport, rather than any other. http://www.ukultimate.com or [email protected] are good places to start.
