Ok, it is too late for your beer, but maybe I can come with a general comment, for the case this problem happens again: Counter-flow chillers work much better if the flow is "counter". That means, the water goes in the same end as the beer comes out. But even they work the wrong way around, just not as effectively. Immersion chillers should work as well both ways.
