Sure you can. You are right that it has a good desinfecting effect on
your fermenter. As has been mentioned, you should avoid splashing when
you pour your wort into the fermenter if you do it hot, as oxidizing the
warm wort is not a good idea. But then again, the yeast needs some
oxygen, so you should at least splash a lot when you pour your starter
in, and probably do some extra splashing there.
I often cool some of my wort in a fermenter, since I have limited
boiling capacity, and need to use the pot for the next boil. But I
always cool some in the pot, and make a good splash when I pour them
together. So far it has been
