It is my understanding that CPT has adopted some, but not all, ASA codes.
Therefore, the codes that are not adopted into CPT will be considered
non-standard or local codes and not usable on a HIPAA transaction.

I could easily be incorrect, but I thought ASA codes were listed in the
front of the CPT book as being part of CPT codes....?  I don't have a CPT
book here to check this though.  If they are part of CPT, then they are
HIPAA compliant.
