>I'm sure that some would, but experience has been that media-based
installation are not widely used by "corporations and government
agencies" as you were defining the potential users. Most of their
deployments are done using automation frameworks that pull packages or
images from network servers, so features that support those scenarios
are where we're spending the bulk of the effort that's targeted at those
customers.<

I believe the number that would benefit is more than you would suspect. Yes,
the government and corporations use automation tools to push packages and
upgrade systems, but a lot still use media for a clean install. I know that
the government uses what is called a standard desktop configuration (SDC).
This is a Windows install that has been customized. A DVD is still used to do
a clean install on the system. Yes, I'm sure there are other ways to do it,
but that is typically how it is done.

I'm just giving you my perspective. I'm just one user and what I would like is
an install DVD image like what is available with the Solaris Express Community
Edition (SECE). Like I said, I didn't think it would be a big deal since it
was already available for the SECE. I like to be able, at install time, set
the system name, assign IP address, setup Kerberos, pick the packages, etc...

Cheers,

Michael
