FYI: Roughly speaking, In Japanese, there are four major encodings. (It's crazy. But it looks that they don't(or can't) change there ways...) Shift-JIS -> Softwares on Microsoft Windows EUC-JP(ujis) -> Most of the MYSQL databases and UNIX/LINUX iso-2022-jp -> E-mails UTF-8 -> New Web Applications (such as Gmail) Shun 2006/12/23, Larry E. I set the charset in shift-jis since this is the charset I found associated with the Japanese language.
