There is a lot of sailing on Lake Norman.  Lake Norman Yacht Club has a lot
of 18 squares and other cats there.  In the fall there is a large regatta.

Anyway, there is  a good amount of traffic in the winter months. :}

The hookah is really light so weight shouldn't be a big concern.  I'm afraid
an 18' might be too much for a rookie to handle.  

I live in Charlotte, NC by the way. There is way more demand for bass boats
than anything with a sail. It has to do with that NASCAR thing.
