Dorothy, Four quick points, poorly maintained gas fridges with badly positioned or crushed flues have been responsible for several fatal and very serious carbon monoxide (CO) poisonings. For your own safety it is worth ensuring that everything concerning the burner and flue are correct. There is no requirement by the BSS for fitting a room-sealed fridge (although we advise you to do that if chosing a gas powered replacement), unless you have a petrol engined boat. Being room selaed it draws the combustion air directly from and vents the exhaust directly to the outside of boat, much reducing the risk of CO poisoning. Further background on CO is published in a pdf on the Yahoo site for this list and on our website I believe that some of the older three-way fridges do not have a thermostatic cut-out running and this means they run continuously and some people find that this strains their boat's 12v battery supply. I believe more modern electric fridges are far more efficient and place less strain on battery resources. As a BSS examiner, Roger Alsop's details are published on our website.
