A few more recommendations: The Gate Hangs Well, a mile's walk up the Wreake from the Old Junction at Syston, is a pleasant place to spend an evening (and it's an enjoyable walk, too).
The Swan in the Rushes in Loughborough, a very short walk from the basin (not that you can moor in the latter right now), is a cracking pub. Here in Burton: WW's local is the Coopers Tavern, on Cross Street - again, about a mile's walk from the canal, but a superb 'real pub' with real ales (and ciders, and perries) to match. No food in the evening, but the Devonshire Arms (about 100 yards away) can supply that and is a good pub in itself. And do pick up a very reasonably priced slice of chocolate cake from the Stenson Lock cafe on your way through... Trent still closed yesterday at both Alrewas and Sawley, can't imagine it's gone down yet especially given that we had yet more rain last night. Richard
