It was this article about the boat with the electic motor that got me
to thinking about all this, as it mentions that the author found that
he used 2.8kw (i.e. 3.7hp) for normal canal cruising. (The boat's
length is not mentioned but from the photo in the article, it looks to
be in the vicinity of 40 feet).
