As best I know, the only way you're going to get this is to buy a unit with Ordnance Survey mapping. None of the other data suppliers (TomTom/Teleatlas, Nokia/Navteq) have footpaths in their database. The OpenStreetMap project (www.openstreetmap.org) is working on it; there's a few boaters contributing to it (myself included), and you can get OSM maps on your Garmin very easily... but a grassroots remapping of the UK isn't going to happen overnight!
