Date - 17 /05/08 Day - Friday Start - 0915 End - 1730 We set off on a very overcast Saturday morning and it was quite cool for the time of year. The rain held off until just before Windsor but it was unpleasant in heavy drizzle as we past Windsor Park, There was very little traffic about and we did most of the locks alone. We were some way off Penton Hook Lock when the gates opened, I eased off to give the boat in the lock time to leave but didn't realise that he was going up and that they were waiting for us to join them. I tried to apologise to the chap on the other boat but he stood with his back to me and only half turned when I said sorry but I thought he was coming down to which he just pointed to the stern of his boat that was half obscured by a rubber dingy and he also had windows in the back of the wheel house that looked like a screen, on top of which I was off the line to give him loads of room to come out. O and he was flying a blue ensign. At Old Windsor Lock the yellow board was out indicating that there was no lock keeper present so we had to work it ourselves. As we came into Windsor town we could hear the church bells ringing which we suspect was to announce the latest Royal wedding. In Windsor we called in to see Mike and Krystyna on their barge before continuing upstream through Eaton Wick lock to moor for the night around 1730 hrs. The visitor moorings were full of cruisers, some breasted up but there was no sign of life onboard any of them, so we nosed in against a tree leaving the stern clear of the shallows and made ourselves comfortable, we even trimmed the undergrowth back to make getting off more pleasant.
