Date - 18/05/08
Day - Sunday
Start - Eton Rowing Lake 0915
End - Wargrave Mash visitor moorings 1830

It was good to see the sun when we woke this morning, even if it was
accompanied by a cool breeze. We set off at 9.15am just as all the
cruisers moored ahead of us were having breakfast. The reason they were
all moored there was that they had held their annual bash at the Eton
Rowing Club by the end of the rowing lake. The rowers from the schools
were out in force and we watched as one pair of young ladies went flat
out into the trees on the river bank, luckily they were not hurt. There
was quite a bit more traffic about today and we shared most locks.
Several sailing clubs were about tacking around and there was a rowing
regatta at Maidenhead which added to the fun of dodging boats. Henley
is going flat out getting ready for their regatta with most of the
course laid out and if you wish to moor there for the week it will only
cost you £250. The last lock we went through today was Marsh Lock, here
one of the boaters managed to fall in the lock, luckily for him the lock
was full and the lock keeper was about to open the gates , so the water
level was almost up to the side and the undercurrents from the paddles
had subsided, had it happened a few minuets earlier it could have been
very nasty.
